ASKING QUESTIONS OF HM GOVERNMENT REGARDING UAP
IN COMPARISON TO the United States government’s efforts to be more transparent regarding the subject of UFOs/UAP, Her Majesty’s representatives in Westminster are decidedly lacklustre in their approach to disclosing any sort of information regarding what may or may not be flying above British airspace, or potentially interacting with UK military assets and installations. The official stance from the MoD is that the subject has not warranted investigation because it has “no defence significance” and that these unidentified objects present no immediate threat, and this has been the party line since Ministry of Defence Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Henry Tizard, set up the “Flying Saucer Working Party” in 1950.
“We accordingly recommend very strongly that no further investigation of reported mysterious aerial phenomena be undertaken, unless and until some material evidence becomes available.” Sir Henry Tizard
While the group published its final report in 1951, two years later the ‘Working Party’ reopened and under various guises within the Air Ministry and DI55 departments, continued until 2009. Twelve months prior, a large volume of UFO reports were declassified and made available to the public via the National Archives, thanks to the tireless efforts of researchers such as Dr David Clarke of Sheffield Hallam University.
So while we have recently seen a plethora of official information distributed from the United States via the wonder of the internet, on this side of the Atlantic it appears to be business as usual and ‘move along, nothing to see here.’ We have a feeling that something is about change.
Here at UAPMedia UK we are continually keeping ourselves informed of the latest developments from the Pentagon and as such are in regular contact with those in the know - including Luis Elizondo, the former head of the AATIP - and many other reliable sources on the front line of the effort to end UAP secrecy. Our reach extends further than many realise and the ongoing efforts of our team is testament to the building of an immensely valuable resource in the UK which we are creating for the benefit of public and media alike. This has also helped in our interactions with our local members of parliament who have started to show an interest in what we are presenting to them, and have indicated that our concerns and questions are being passed on to the relevant Defence ministers.
Self congratulatory back-patting aside, it’s the general public who may need the most persuasion to take this subject seriously, a cause not helped when our national newspapers write headlines such as “I’ve been abducted by aliens 52 times… says Paula from Yorkshire” and follow it up with a pithy comment, or even “SAS vs UFO”. We get it, we really do. The British public like the ridiculous and prefer to poke fun at the subject because it’s something that is genuinely completely ‘alien’ to them and not as important as finding out the location of the new series of I’m A Celebrity… or which footballers wives are trading insults on Instagram.
In his opinion piece published on The New York Times website on May 13th, columnist Ezra Klein asked:
“Imagine, tomorrow, an alien craft crashed down in Oregon. There are no life-forms in it. It’s effectively a drone. But it’s undeniably extraterrestrial in origin. So we are faced with the knowledge that we’re not alone, that we are perhaps being watched, and we have no way to make contact. How does that change human culture and society?” Ezra Klein, New York Times, May 13th 2021.
The probable answer would be something along the lines that it’s nice to know that we’re not alone in the universe (which is an arrogant assumption to begin with) but on the face of it, that knowledge is not going to help you pay the mortgage, put your children through school or put dinner on the table. In short, the general populace would probably turn around and say “Huh, that’s nice.” and carry on their merry way, oblivious to the revelation that this information has been kept hidden away from them by governments for decades. But that’s an article for another day.
Back on point and in a quest to find out whether the UK government is paying attention to the disclosure process in the United States, a petition appeared on the official UK Government Petitions website earlier this week which could have potentially revelatory implications as to what the MoD does now know regarding the subject of UFOs/UAP. This particular petition was created by planning advisor and ‘Trekkie’ Anna Whitty, author of the book UFOs: The Fundamental Truth.
Her request of our current presiding ministers? Publish a comprehensive report into UFO and UAP events in the UK.
Having already added our signatures previously to bring it to the attention of the Petitions Committee, to ensure it met with their strict guidelines before it was passed, we spoke to Anna to find out a bit more about her effort.
What made you decide to create the petition?
“There have been a number of recent incidents which the public need an explanation for. For example, this year an unexplained sonic boom was heard over a nuclear storage facility in Berkshire, and just weeks ago the government announced they’re drastically increasing numbers of nuclear warheads despite it being almost impossible to use one without committing a war crime by indiscriminately killing civilians. We don’t use nuclear weapons to defend against aerial threats because terrestrial aircraft can be brought down with conventional weapons. So I find this all really concerning and I think the government has a lot of explaining to do. Are we under threat of attack? If so by whom (or what?), and if not, why are we shooting peaceful but unidentified craft out of the sky and stocking up on nukes? I had no idea what sort of response to expect, but I’m really glad it’s taken off (so to speak)! “I grew up watching The X-Files in the 90s and I was excited and inspired at the thought that “the truth is out there”. These days I’m just disappointed it’s still at large!”
When comparing the information regarding UAP interactions with the U.S. Navy and sensitive nuclear installations on American soil, why do you think the UK government tends to avoid this subject?
“They’re very different cultures. In the UK we tend to lean towards a “least said, soonest mended” approach, and the public have largely accepted being told “we’re not telling you, it’s for your own good”. In the US, the public demand answers, and they get them. The problem is, they don’t demand the truth, and they’re never given a straight answer. They get a decades-long parade of leaks from “secret government insiders” and retired important people, all of which can be denied by the government, who aren’t above giving out their own disinformation. The American public have normalised their government lying to them and would rather have wrong information than no information. A good example is the 1995 Roswell Report wherein a number of examples were given where the US Government and Air Force had lied to the American public to cover up secret projects within a fairly unconvincing (in my opinion) document that purported to be definitely telling the whole truth this time.”
Next month should see the publication of the Pentagon's upcoming UAPTF report, what do you think it will contain?
“If I was being cynical I’d say blurry photographs of any of their own tech which they’d like to pass off as “unknown”, without radar and satellite data to corroborate testimony about where the craft came from or how fast it went. Possibly with an unconvincing story about how NASA lost most of the data in an accidental shredder fire! Optimistically I’d like some yes/no answers to questions like have you seen or had contact with any intelligence claiming or appearing to be non-human? Have you recovered non-human people, bodies, craft or other technology? What happened at Roswell, Kecksburg and other well-known unexplained events? And I’d hope for photographs and details of all of the above.”
How do you think the UK press handles this subject?
“Even though recent reports appeared, it doesn’t seem to be taking much notice, which isn’t too surprising given we’ve been hoping for imminent disclosure for about 75 years! The upcoming UAPTF report isn’t big news here because “someone in the US is going to say something about UFOs” has been the case for decades. I think they want to see what’s in the report before deciding whether or not it’s worth reporting on. UFOs are not a subject taken seriously by the UK press, they’re a fun story or an opportunity to take the mickey out of some poor individual.
'“I hope that the pursuit of the UFO subject leads to much greater openness by governments across all subjects, and to greater cooperation between countries and people. I think awareness of another civilisation will move humanity forward and inspire people to create a more cooperative and caring global society that looks after each other and our environment, and rejects war and the abuses of people and the environment, and I think that the government is more scared of that than they are of aliens!”
We definitely concur and we write this patiently awaiting the latest information from documentary film maker Jeremy Corbell and journalist George Knapp to drop later today, and the scheduled ‘UAP’ segment on Sunday 16th May, on the prestigious CBS network TV behemoth 60 Minutes. We are naturally pessimistic though and whatever bombshells, or newly declassified UAP footage is disclosed, it will all be overshadowed by the news that pop megastar Demi Lovato is fronting a four-part UFO ‘investigation’ show because, in the UK at least, celebrity reigns.
At the time of writing, 854 signatures had been added to Anna Whitty’s petition in the first 48 hours, well on the way to the 10,000 needed for an official response from the government. Hopefully, with the help of the UK media, Anna - and ourselves - are hoping that we can break the 100,000 signature ceiling needed for ministers to seriously consider that the UAP subject be debated, and broadcast live, in the House of Commons.
If you are yet to sign Anna’s petition you can do so here. The petition is open until 11th November 2021.
UPDATE: We are currently awaiting approval of our own petition which is requesting the creation of a UK equivalent to the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force and hope to have similar good news on that front early next week in addition to a new downloadable follow-up template letter to send to your MP.
